The Second Annual ABWA Share Your Story, held on August 8, 2026 at the AMPAC Business Center, was a wonderful success. Centered on the theme “Celebrating Mentoring and Professional Growth,” the event brought mentors, mentees, and guests together for an inspiring morning of learning, reflection, and connection. The beautiful venue, thoughtful decorations, and lunch we shared created a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout the event.
The event began with Dr. Francisca Beer’s story of the two trees, an inspiring reflection on the role of mentors in helping remove obstacles so that others can find the light they need to grow. The message carried throughout the program and left participants with a simple but powerful question: “Whose sunlight will you help uncover next?”
One of the highlights was the keynote address by Dr. Angela Clark-Louque, whose engaging presentation connected music, generations, and mentoring styles, offering a creative perspective on how mentors can better understand and connect with mentees across generations. The program also featured Precious Opaleke and her mentee Aurelia Aubrey, who candidly shared lessons from their mentoring relationship, as well as Tamarra Brown, who offered practical insights on helping mentees succeed.
We also benefited from Nicole Cox, who shared her personal and professional journey. Her story provided another powerful example of perseverance, growth, and the significant role that mentoring, guidance, and support can play along the way.
Learning was balanced with fun and fellowship. Participants enjoyed a mentoring puzzle game created by Marjorie McPike, which encouraged collaboration, communication, and connection while reinforcing the spirit of mentoring.
The event concluded with remarks from ABWA President Nefertiti Long, who reflected on the importance of continuing to support one another and thanked everyone who contributed to another successful Share Your Story event.
Overall, the event beautifully demonstrated what the ABWA Mentoring Program is about: building relationships, sharing experiences, celebrating growth, and creating opportunities for others to succeed. A special thank you to Rosa Kuybus, Kathy Johnson, Helen Jones, Marjorie McPike, our speakers, mentors, mentees, volunteers, and everyone who contributed their time and talents to making the event such a success.
